Japanese snack maker Tohato is making its customers choose product sides in a mobile multiplayer online battle.
To help market two of its new spicy snacks, “Tyrant Habanero Burning Hell Hot” and “Satan Jorquia Bazooka Deadly Hot,” the company has launched a mobile game that pits two armies — Habanero Evil Army against Satan Jorquia Evil Army — in a war to decide which flavor will rule them all.
To participate, you scan the barcode found on the bags with your mobile phone — pretty much all mobile phones in Japan are equipped with barcode readers these days — which then puts you in the army of your snack. Then, you can recruit others (helps you gain ranks), face off in various battlefields — “Ouch, the City of Anal Torture” anyone? — and receive SMS news alerts informing you of the latest wartime developments.
Although I haven’t tasted these particular flavors, I’ve had some of their past snacks — they’re sort of like Ringalos — and yes, they’re pretty damn hot.

We’d like to pretend that the number one thing that happened this week wasn’t the ۶۹th episode of the Xbox ۳۶۰ Fancast, but we just can’t. It’s really the biggest thing to happen since we hit episode ۰۵۰. Yes, we’re puerile infants. We’re comfortable with that. Oh, and we had plenty of features too, including our video look at Penny Arcade Adventures, a new edition of Points>Life, and a new piece of swag up for grabs. Dig through it all in the links below.

ShackNews reports that a Resident Evil ۵ preview, originally posted by GamesRadar, stated the game would feature online co-op throughout the campaign and that a cover system had been added to the franchise. Sadly, we can’t report on this information directly from GamesRadar because the article has been removed. We blame the Umbrella Corporation. We always blame the Umbrella Corporation.
The preview allegedly revealed that there would be also be a dodge mechanic (using the right analog stick), a mercenary mini-game and a challenge mode. In the co-op campaign, players would be able to drop in and out at any time, with the AI taking over when there’s no pesky human with yummy brains to control the second character. RE۵ is expected sometime before the next decade and follows the possibly racist Chris Redfield as he indiscriminately kills all of zombie-kind between him and his goal.

Sorry I’ve been radio silent for a while. Life has been busy, you know how it goes…
In any event, it appears that Cory Ondrejka, employee No. ۴ at San Francisco-based Linden Lab, which owns Second Life, quit Tuesday and will depart at the end of the year. Ondrejka spearheaded the company’s decision to allow users to retain intellectual property rights to their creations. That’s encouraged a thriving e-commerce market where users spend real dollars to buy virtual real estate, clothes, cars and other items. So it will be interesting to see where the company goes next.

Most of you read or at least heard the Next-Gen interview with Marc Whitten where he revealed some Xbox Live Arcade games will be delisted. The article sparked quite a bit of discussion like Game|Life’s intelligent piece on long tail economics and GameSetWatch’s excellent devil advocate’s opinion regarding artificial scarcity.
Gamerscoreblog, written by actual Microsoft employees, confirms the criteria for delisting. Games that have a Metacritic score of ۶۵% or less, been on Xbox Live Arcade for over six months and have a demo to purchase ratio of less than ۶% might be pulled from the Xbox Live Arcade catalog.
The conversion ratio is the “wildcard” factor. Microsoft has never revealed this data, but just to get some idea of what games could be delisted I went through Metacritic to make two lists. The first is for games over six months old. The second reveals what games might be delisted in the future.
The potential delist list:
Crystal Quest
Speedball ۲: Brutal Deluxe
Hardwood Hearts
Fatal Fury Special
Contra
Marathon: Durandal
Missile Command
Time Pilot
Track & Field
Hardwood Backgammon
Hardwood Spades
Pac-Man
Frogger
Mad Tracks
Root Beer Tapper
Super Contra
Geon: Emotions
Soltrio Solitaire
Rush'n Attack
Aegis Wing
Defender
Rocketmen: Axis of Evil
Double Dragon
Xevious
Gyruss
Asteroids / Asteroids Deluxe
Centipede & Millipede
Spyglass Board Games
Tetris Splash
Ecco the Dolphin
Yie Ar Kung-Fu
Wing Commander Arena
Novadrome
Shrek-N-Roll
Scramble
Sonic the Hedgehog
Street Trace: NYC
TotemBall
Word Puzzle
New Rally-X
Cyberball ۲۰۷۲
Screwjumper!
Yaris
The potential delist list of the future:
Arkadian Warriors
Tempest
Tron
Boogie Bunnies
Discs of Tron
Triggerheart Exelica
Bliss Island
Brain Challenge
TiQal
Mr. Driller Online
Battlezone
Rocky and Bullwinkle
Is there anything here that you would miss?

The Prince of Persia now has a Hollywood face, and he looks like Jake Gyllenhaal.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Jake Gyllenhaal will be taking on the lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia series.
Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a ۶th century Persian prince who joins up with princess Tamina (played by new Bond girl Gemma Arterton) to stop an evil nobleman from getting his grubby hands on the mystical Sands of Time.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is being directed by Mike Newell, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer for Disney, who promises (surprise) a big movie: “It’s not one of our smaller productions.”
Well, seeing as I’m quite a fan of Gyllenhaal (and his sister too, for that matter), this certainly comes as a welcomed announcement.

As a seasoned veteran of the MMoRPG market, I must admit that I have been looking forward to AoC for quite some time now. Having long laid down the land of Azeroth for greener pastures, I yearned for something to fill the void in what has become a stagnant pool of pretenders to WoW’s throne.
